InCites & Derwent Innovation: Analytic Tools
The Library invites all research, analytical and commercialization departments, faculty, PhD students and researchers to a presentation on two analytic tools for bibliometric and patent analytics for evaluating research output and analyzing the innovation landscape.
InCites. Built on the foundation of Web of Science, InCites is a tool that uses the most thorough, accurate, and objective data available and provides advanced analytical and visualization functions. The presentation will illustrate the main bibliometric indicators used in research evaluation, and several use cases for the analysis of research performance in Nazarbayev University. During this section we will discuss how to:
- Identify and manage research activities and their impact
- Benchmark and compare performance to peers
- Promote internal and external partnerships and collaborations
- Identify experts both inside and outside the organization
- Promote areas of strength and specialization
Trial access for InCites will start in March 2019.
Derwent Innovation. The patent analytics section, which is already a part of Web of Science, is powered by Derwent Innovation, a proprietary patent research application that provides access to globally trusted, curated patent intelligence and literature. Presented will be the main practices of patent analysis applied at various stages of the innovation process and a demonstration of use cases for the analysis of technological trends.
During this section we will discuss how to:
- Understand the current state of the art in your technology area
- Increase the chances of a patent application to be granted a patent
- Understand the freedom to operate and how this influences the risks of international patenting
- Manage the university’s patent portfolio
- Conduct competitive analysis and forecast
- Take strategic investment decisions and forecast technological trends
Presenter: Pavel Kasyanov (Bibliometric Expert from Clarivate Analytics) has substantial experience in patent analytics; participates in various activities for popularizing bibliometrics om Russia and the CIS; and maintains a topical blog http://pavel-kasyanov.blogspot.com/ (in Russian).
