[MIL Week 2021] MIL in Haiku
In celebration of the Global Media and Information Literacy Week (GMIL) 2021, the NU Library, in partnership with the Writing Center, invites students to create a simple Haiku, an unrhymed poetic form consisting of 17 syllables arranged in three lines of 5, 7, and 5 syllables respectively (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2021) focusing on how media and information literacy (MIL) can be incorporated into our daily lives. The winning piece will have a chance to be published in Angime, the trilingual literary arts journal affiliated with NU, and win some prizes.
Here are samples of haiku poems:
An old silent pond...
A frog jumps into the pond,
splash! Silence again.
Autumn moonlight-
a worm digs silently
into the chestnut.
In the twilight rain
these brilliant-hued hibiscus -
A lovely sunset.
- Matsuo Basho (1644-1694)
