[SOM] Critical Appraisal of Literature

This session introduces the essential skills and tools needed to critically appraise scholarly literature. Participants will learn how to identify strong research, recognize potential biases, and make informed decisions about which sources to include in their academic work. These skills are a key component of evidence-based practice and are vital for producing high-quality, research-informed writing.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the purpose of critical appraisal in evaluating scholarly literature;
  • Identify the key components of a scholarly article;
  • Assess the credibility of sources, including peer-review status and journal reputation;
  • Use basic critical appraisal tools to systematically evaluate scholarly articles;
